We are grateful for the “Integrating MHPSS and Peacebuilding: A Mapping and Recommendations for Practitioners” manual, released by the Inter-Agency Standing Committee Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Reference Group (IASC MHPSS RG) earlier this year. This report serves as a valuable guide on the integration of MHPSS within peacebuilding initiatives in humanitarian, post-conflict, and development settings.
Why It Matters: MHPSS and peacebuilding are inherently complementary and synergistic. Efforts that integrate mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) and peacebuilding can enhance positive outcomes and limit negative, unintended outcomes for well-being, resilience, social cohesion, and peace.
With protracted conflicts going on worldwide, the importance of this endeavor cannot be overstated. Now there is a defining opportunity to bring MHPSS and Peacebuilding together.
